CANA Learn to Swim Programme "EVERY AFRICAN A SWIMMER", Feb 2020
The African Swimming Confederation (CANA) launched the African Learn to Swim Programme in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The CANA Bureau agreed to implement this important initiative to reduce the high level number of drownings on our Continent. This programme held huge potential for Africa to save the lives of many Africans and grow aquatics on our continent. CANA’s objective is to ensure that “Every African is a Swimmer”.
Participants from 19 countries across the continent attended the four day programme in Johannesburg to be trained as Learn to Swim instructors. These instructors will implement a Learn to Swim Programme in each of their countries as well as teaching children to swim. This is the first of many programmes that CANA will implement over the next few years to ensure that Learn to Swim Instructors are training in all African countries.
The President of CANA Dr Sam Ramsamy announced at the launch that he was “..very excited by the introduction of the programme and the enthusiasm of the candidates attending. He indicated that each of the candidates had a major responsibility to ensure that the Learn to Swim Programme is implemented in their countries.”
