Africa Aquatics is proud to feature the remarkable journey of Egyptian swimmer Merhan Yasser. After establishing herself as a national champion and technical specialist in Artistic Swimming, Yasser has leveraged that elite foundation to make a seamless and dominant transition into the world of open water endurance. Her background in the pool has clearly paved the way for her rapid rise to the top of the continental rankings.

Her 2025 season was defined by consistent podium finishes at the highest levels of competition. Her qualification for the World Final was secured at Oceanman Egypt in El Gouna, where she claimed 1st place in her age group and 3rd place overall. This momentum carried her to the global stage in Dubai, where she represented Egypt against more than 2,800 athletes from 90+ countries.

Competing in the high-intensity 2K race, Yasser secured 3rd place worldwide in the 20–29 age group.1 Her current ranking as the #1 female in both Africa and the MENA region highlights the rising standard of North African aquatic sports on the international map. Additionally, we congratulate the Egyptian relay team for their stellar 5th place global finish, demonstrating the collective strength of the national program.

Merhan Yasser’s transition and subsequent global success serve as an inspiration to athletes across the continent, proving that technical foundations can lead to enduring global excellence.
