Paris, 7 August 2024. In a thrilling display of skill and perseverance, African divers Julia Vincent of South Africa and Maha Amer of Egypt showcased their talent in the Women's 3m Springboard Preliminaries at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Julia Vincent: Triumph Amidst Pressure
Julia Vincent, the 29-year-old South African diving veteran, demonstrated her experience and determination by securing 13th place with a total score of 283.50, earning her a spot in the semi-finals for the first time in her Olympic career.
Competing in her third Olympic Games, Vincent’s journey to the semi-finals was marked by impressive dives and moments of tension:

Vincent, who had reached the finals at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka and again in Doha, expressed her relief and joy after the preliminaries. “So much better [than Tokyo]. Big relief off my shoulders. I think the hardest part is just staying steady and making sure that I advance and go on to the next round," she shared.
Reflecting on her performance, Vincent added, “It’s so frustrating because I love that dive actually. But it'll come when it needs to come.” She emphasized her goal to remain present and enjoy the competition, stating, “I think I'm definitely in a different place in my training than I have been, and hopefully my emotional maturity as well, and I'm really just trying to have a great time.”
With the semi-finals scheduled for 10 am tomorrow, Vincent’s sights are set firmly on advancing to Friday’s final, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.
Maha Amer: Shining Bright in Her Third Olympics
Egypt’s Maha Amer, competing in her third Olympics at the age of 25, faced a challenging competition but showcased resilience and determination, finishing 24th with a total score of 250.20:
