Paris, 9 August 2024 – The diving events at the 2024 Paris Olympics were filled with breathtaking moments and intense competition, but for Egypt’s Ramez Sobhy, the journey was one of resilience, determination, and the pride of representing his nation on the world stage.
Competing in the highly challenging Men's 10m Platform event, Sobhy delivered a performance that, while not leading to a top finish, showcased his dedication and skill in one of the most demanding sports at the Games. Sobhy finished 26th with a total score of 266.95, facing off against the world's best divers.
The competition began with a solid start for Sobhy. His first dive, a Back 2½ Somersaults with 1½ Twists in the pike position, earned him a score of 54.40 points, placing him 25th. As he moved through the rounds, Sobhy's determination was evident. His Forward 3½ Somersaults in the pike position scored 57.00 points, the highest of his six dives, propelling him to 23rd overall after the second round.
However, the competition grew tougher as Sobhy attempted increasingly difficult dives. His Armstand Forward Double Somersault with 1 Twist, a dive requiring immense strength and precision, scored 49.60 points, keeping him in 24th place. Despite his best efforts, Sobhy's fourth dive, an Inward 3½ Somersaults in the tuck position, saw a lower score of 33.60 points, moving him to 26th place.
The final two rounds were particularly challenging for Sobhy. His Reverse 2½ Somersaults in the tuck position scored 47.60 points, followed by his Back 3½ Somersaults in the tuck position, which earned 24.75 points. Sobhy ended the event with a total score of 266.95, maintaining his 26th place in the competition.
Though the result was not what Sobhy might have hoped for, his presence in the competition was a significant achievement in itself. Competing at the Olympics is a dream for many, and Sobhy, representing Egypt, carried the hopes of his nation with pride.
The road to the Olympics is never easy, and Sobhy's performance in Paris serves as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unyielding spirit that defines Olympians. As he continues his journey, Sobhy’s experience in Paris will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for future endeavors, inspiring the next generation of Egyptian divers.
In a sport where every twist, turn, and somersault is judged with extreme precision, Sobhy’s participation at this level is a reminder of the passion and courage it takes to compete on the world’s grandest stage.
