The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has taken legal action by submitting compliance cases to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the national anti-doping organizations (NADO) of South Africa.
In September, WADA determined NADO of South Africa to be non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, citing discrepancies in their respective national anti-doping legislation that deviated from the established Code.
While South Africa's non-compliance sanctions are a recent development.
Disputing WADA's accusations of non-compliance in October, NADO of South Africa have prompted WADA to escalate the matter by filing an arbitration request with the CAS.
The repercussions of being deemed non-compliant are significant, including the prohibition of hosting major sporting events and the restriction on displaying the national flag at the Olympics, Paralympics, World Championships, as well as continental or regional Games.
