Egyptian gold medalist Ahmed Hafnaoui, the reigning Olympic champion in the men's 400 freestyle, commenced his academic journey at Indiana University this autumn. However, his current circumstances are uncertain as he is no longer on the university campus; instead, he is presently engaged in training with The Swim Team (TST) in Lake Forest, California.

TST has verified this information and voiced their support for Hafnaoui's training, underscoring the robust connections forged in the swimming community. Although his enrollment at Indiana University is confirmed, details regarding his future with the Hoosiers remain undisclosed. Both Indiana University and Hafnaoui have chosen not to provide additional information at this time.

Renowned for coaching elite distance swimmers in the United States, TST is currently home to prominent athletes gearing up for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, including David Johnston, Will Gallant, and Michael Brinegar. Egyptian Olympian Marwan El Kamash, a former Hoosier like Brinegar and Gallant, is also undergoing training at TST.

Stroke coach Steve Friederang, in collaboration with TST, has shared a YouTube video analyzing Hafnaoui's swimming technique.

Hafnaoui earned international acclaim by clinching the men's 400 free Olympic gold from Lane 8 in Tokyo two years ago. At the 2023 World Championships, he demonstrated his excellence by securing gold in the 800 free and 1500 free, along with a silver in the 400 free. Currently, he holds notable rankings in these events, positioned at #2 in the 1500 free, #3 in the 800 free, and #5 in the 400 free.

Initially anticipated to join Indiana in the 2022-23 campaign, Hafnaoui encountered academic challenges last fall, resulting in his designation as a partial qualifier and precluding his participation in the collegiate season. Despite this setback, he opted to remain in Bloomington, where he thrived in training, engaging in two races for the Hoosiers this season and securing multiple victories, notably against Kentucky and in a double dual with Auburn and Mizzou.

Africa Aquatics wants to wish Ahmed all the best i. his future endeavours.
