We trust you and your family are well and safe during the Corona Global pandemic presently facing all of us.
All of us have been patiently awaiting how and when some form of swimming activity can commence; and when we can get together. Besides our daily discussions with FINA President Dr Julio Maglione and 1st Vice President Husain al Musallam, Our CANA President consults regularly with the IOC, ANOC and ANOCA so that whatever information we transmit to you via our Zonal Representatives is most recent and up to date.
We are all concerned at the limbo of non-activity of our swimming programmes.
Presently, most countries are assessing national priorities in the easing of some or more of the lockdown regulations.
But sadly, the global process differs from country to country; and the level of easing of regulations is not uniform. And we can only consider a get-together when all countries have equal access for the entire continent.
We have been informed that some countries are considering water-activities for aspiring top swimmers. No doubt all our charges can meanwhile commence land-exercising, if not already being undertaken.
Graham Hill, the Chair of FINA Coaching Committee and our highly respected African member, has indicated that he is willing to assist our African swimmers and coaches in proposing appropriate training schedules.
Besides, CANA is planning in holding a Continental Training Camp so that our charges can recover and catch up on the valuable lost time. We will effect this as soon as the general lockdown is lifted.
The CANA Family WhatsApp communication is a useful medium of us to interact. But not all of us are on it. We urge all to register. For any assistance please contact your federation secretary.
Also, please continue checking the CANA website to stay informed of the latest developments.
Meanwhile keep safe and well.
Dr. Sam Ramsamy (C.A.N.A. President)
