Renowned Swimmer Hospitalized with Food Poisoning

On the inaugural night of the U.S. Open, Marwan El Kamash, a prominent figure in swimming, made unexpected scratches from the men's 800 freestyle event. Subsequently, it has been revealed that his withdrawal from the meet is attributed to a bout of illness. El Kamash, who hones his skills at TST, disclosed to SwimSwam that he is currently hospitalized in Egypt, grappling with food poisoning. This unfortunate turn of events followed his participation in the Egyptian National Championships.

At 30 years old, El Kamash held the fourth seed in the 1500 free and the ninth seed in the 400 free. His recent performances at the 2023 World Championships showcased his prowess, finishing ninth in the 1500 free, 10th in the 800 free, and 15th in the 400 free. The former Indiana Hoosier swimmer has been a stalwart representative for Egypt in the global swimming arena, boasting consecutive appearances at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

El Kamash's unforeseen health setback is a blow to his competitive aspirations, especially as he strives for a third consecutive Olympic appearance.
