4 December 2024 - DAY 1 of the Africa Aquatics Championship (4 – 8 December 2024) had a successful start with the following Africa Aquatic Records that were set by the following athletes:
1. 800 LC Meter Freestyle
KELLEN T. JONES from South Africa in a time of 9:13:33 (Boys 14 & Under)
MADISON BERGH from Namibia in a time of 9:53:77 (Girls 15 & Over)
2. 100 LC Meter Backstroke
ROSALINDA MATYAYI from NAMIBIA in a time of 1:08:90 (Girls 13 – 14)
SCARLETT LE ROUX from SOUTH AFRICA in a time of 1:07:22 (Girls 15 – 16)
3. 4x100 LC Meter Medley Relay
Team SOUTH AFRICA set a new record at a time of 4:43:77 (Girls 14 & Under)
The Opening Ceremony, scheduled for 14h00 was graced with the presence of our Minister of Sport, Youth and National Services, Honourable Agnes Tjongarero and a number of dignitaries amongst whom were executive sponsors and elite athletes.
As per protocol directives, this reputable event was opened with the National Anthem and the African Union Anthem, followed by a Welcome Speech by the President of the Namibia Aquatic Sports Federation, Mr. Riaan Steyn. The President of the Africa Aquatics Zone IV, Mr Jace Naidoo thanked Namibia for hosting the event at the last minute and a word of inspiration was shared by the Minister of Sports, Youth and National Services, Honourable Agnes Tjongarero.
Namibia Men are currently in the lead with 241 Points, South Africa in 2nd place with187 Points, while Zimbabwe and Mozambique share 3rd place with 151 Points each.
The Namibian Women are leading as well with 268 Points, with Zimbabwe in 2nd place with 236 Points and South Africa third, with 174 Points.
Day 2 is packed with excitement of events such as 200m Breaststroke,200m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 400m Freestyle.
Come and experience the adrenaline, whilst being entertained by world class swimmers from 15 African countries.
