Paris, 3 August 2024 – The 2024 Paris Olympics witnessed a thrilling display of speed and skill as African swimmers competed in the women’s 50m freestyle heats, with Kenya's Maria Bruhnlehner delivering a standout performance.

In Heat 7, Maria Bruhnlehner from Kenya delivered a stunning performance, finishing third with a time of 25.82 seconds. Mia Phiri from Zambia also showcased her speed, finishing with a time of 26.49 seconds.

Heat 1 saw Vanessa Bobombo from the Republic of Congo emerge victorious with a time of 33.01 seconds. She was closely followed by Salima Ahmadou of Niger, who finished in 33.66 seconds, and Naima-Zahra Amison of Djibouti, who clocked in at 33.69 seconds. Despite finishing fourth, Tracy Marine Andet of the Central African Republic gave a commendable performance with a time of 34.95 seconds. Aichata Diabete from Mali, Olamide Sam from Sierra Leone, and Divine Miansadi from the Democratic Republic of the Congo rounded out the heat, showcasing the spirit and determination of the continent.

Heat 2 highlighted the talent of Maesha Saadi from Comoros, who took first place with a time of 29.60 seconds. Grace Nguelo'o Mabeu of Cameroon finished third with a time of 30.98 seconds, while Lina Selo from Ethiopia and Djenabou Bah of Guinea were neck-and-neck, finishing at 31.87 and 31.90 seconds, respectively. Lidwine Umuhosa Uwase from Rwanda and Adele Gaitou from Togo also put in strong performances, reflecting the growing competitiveness of African swimmers on the global stage.

In Heat 3, Lois Irishura of Burundi led the charge, winning with a time of 29.63 seconds. Iman Kouraogo from Burkina Faso finished fifth in her heat with a time of 30.33 seconds, showcasing her potential and determination.

Heat 4 was dominated by Noelie Lacour from Gabon, who finished first with a swift time of 27.68 seconds. Tayamika Changanamuno from Malawi also gave a solid performance, finishing with a time of 29.32 seconds.

The competition intensified in Heat 5, where Christina Rach from Eritrea secured second place with an impressive time of 27.20 seconds. Ionnah Douillet from Benin and Khema Elizabeth from Seychelles followed closely, finishing in 27.64 and 28.18 seconds, respectively. Sophia Latiff of Tanzania clocked in at 28.42 seconds, demonstrating the depth of talent across the continent.

Heat 6 saw Adaku Nwandu from Nigeria finish second with a remarkable time of 26.62 seconds, while Joselle Mensah from Ghana and Antsa Rabejaona from Madagascar finished fourth and seventh, with times of 26.81 and 27.12 seconds, respectively.
