Paris, 29 July 2024 – African swimmers demonstrated their prowess in the heats at the Paris 2024 Olympics, delivering strong performances and securing spots in the finals.
Women's 100m Backstroke
In Heat 4 of the women's 100m backstroke, Denise Donelli from Mozambique showcased her skills by finishing in 2nd place with a time of 1:08.73. Malak Almukhtar from Libya also put forth a commendable effort, finishing 4th with a time of 1:10.99.
Men's 800m Freestyle
Ahmed Jaouadi of Tunisia delivered an exceptional performance in Heat 3 of the men's 800m freestyle. He finished 1st in his heat with a time of 7:42.07, qualifying 2nd overall for the finals and setting high expectations for a podium finish.
In Heat 4, Marwan El Kamash from Egypt swam a time of 8:07.00, finishing 8th in his heat. Despite not advancing to the finals, El Kamash's participation added to the robust presence of African swimmers at the games.
The outstanding performances of these athletes highlight the growing strength and competitiveness of African swimming on the global stage. As the finals approach, all eyes will be on Ahmed Jaouadi as he aims to secure a medal for Tunisia.
