Paris, 28 July 2024 – African swimmers showcased their talent and determination during the heats at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with several athletes advancing to the semi-finals and achieving notable performances.
Women's 100m Breaststroke
In Heat 1, Amina Barrow from Gambia finished 4th with a time of 1:15.12. Meanwhile, Imani el Barodi from Morocco impressed with a 2nd place finish, clocking in at 1:14.27.
In Heat 4, Tatyana Schoenmaker from South Africa dominated the competition, finishing with a time of 1:05.00. Her outstanding performance made her the fastest qualifier for the semi-finals, ahead by 0.63 seconds.
Men's 100m Backstroke
In Heat 1, *Alexis Kpade from Benin secured 2nd place with a time of 57.61.
South Africa's Pieter Coetze delivered a stellar performance in Heat 5, finishing 2nd with a time of 52.90. His swift swim earned him a spot in the semi-finals as the second-fastest qualifier overall.
Women's 200m Freestyle
In Heat 2, Lojine Abdalla Salah from Egypt finished 8th with a time of 2:07.19.
Aimee Canny from South Africa competed in Heat 4, finishing 5th with a time of 1:57.81. Her effort was enough to secure her a place in the semi-finals as the 14th fastest qualifier.
